What Postcode Radar does

Postcode Radar is a free tool that aggregates publicly available UK data (crime rates, property prices, school ratings, etc.) for any postcode you search. We do not require you to create an account.

What data we collect

  • Postcode searches: When you search a postcode, that postcode is sent to our server to fetch the relevant data. We do not store a log of your searches.
  • IP address: Your IP address is processed server-side to enforce rate limiting (preventing abuse). It is not stored in a database or linked to your searches.
  • Location data: If you use the "Use My Location" button, your device's GPS coordinates are sent directly from your browser to postcodes.io to find the nearest postcode. This is the one case where a third-party service receives data directly from your device. We do not receive or store your precise coordinates.
  • Analytics: We use Vercel Web Analytics to understand how the site is used (page views, general traffic patterns). Vercel Analytics is cookieless — it does not place tracking cookies on your device and does not fingerprint individual users. See Vercel's privacy documentation.

What we do NOT do

  • We do not store your search history.
  • We do not sell, share, or transfer any personal data to third parties for marketing.
  • We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking pixels.
  • We do not require registration or ask for your name or email address.

Third-party services

All postcode data lookups are performed server-side — your browser only communicates with Postcode Radar's own servers. Your IP address is not sent to any government or third-party API (the one exception is the "Use My Location" button, described above). The postcode you search is forwarded from our server to the following providers:

  • postcodes.io — postcode geocoding
  • Police.uk — crime statistics
  • HM Land Registry — property price data
  • ONS / Nomisweb — census demographics
  • Environment Agency — flood alerts
  • Ofsted — school inspection ratings
  • Overpass API (OpenStreetMap) — local amenities
  • Open-Meteo — air quality data
  • UK Parliament Members API — constituency data
  • Vercel — hosting and analytics

These are all public or government APIs. None of them receive personally identifying information about you beyond the postcode searched.

Northern Ireland postcodes

Postcode data for Northern Ireland (postcodes beginning with BT) is sourced via postcodes.io, which licenses that data for non-commercial use only from Land & Property Services (LPS). Postcode Radar is currently a free, non-commercial tool. If commercial features (advertising, paid plans) are ever introduced, Northern Ireland postcode lookups may be restricted or removed.

Cookies

Postcode Radar does not use cookies for tracking or advertising. The only browser storage used is localStorage to remember the last postcode you searched, so the field is pre-filled on your next visit. This data never leaves your device.

Your rights (UK GDPR)

Because we do not store personal data, there is nothing to access, rectify, or delete. If you have questions or concerns, contact us at hello@postcoderadar.co.uk.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
